All children deserve a quality education that fits their needs. SOAR works with families so they can enroll their children in a school they choose. We provide scholarships to students who otherwise could not afford a private school. Our organization informs families about the Parental Private School Choice Program in Racine and helps them apply. We also offer schools administrative assistance for the School Choice program.
Placing a student in a quality school is only the beginning. Students need encouragement and support to be successful. SOAR Education Enrichment Centers give group homework assistance to students in participating schools and at the Racine Public Library. In addition, students are matched with volunteer mentors who help them with homework and offer encouragement each week.
SOAR frequently consults teachers and principals about our students. Parent involvement is critical. SOAR meets with parents and students four times a year to assess their progress, identify challenges and celebrate successes.
SOAR of Racine (Scholarships, Opportunities and Access in Racine) is a charitable, nonprofit organization committed to eliminating the academic achievement gap among children from families with limited financial resources. SOAR works with families, private schools and regional partners to lead students to high school graduation and to higher education or sustainable careers.
School Development: SOAR works with schools to increase their capacity to serve a more economically, linguistically and culturally diverse population. Together withMount Mary
and Concordia Universities, SOAR has created a school counseling internship. Master school counselors work in schools that otherwise would not have counseling services. SOAR
and Mount Mary also provide peer mediation training to elementary school students.
